Great news!
Valencia has been confirmed as a 2022 World Design Capital finalist. The World Design Organization (WDO), based in Quebec (Canada), has announced that Valencia, together with the city of Bangalore in India, has been chosen as one of the two cities that are finalists to become World Design Capital in the year 2022. The reason for this has been its commendable contribution to design and innovation .
According to Luisa Bocchietto, Chairwoman of the WDO and a member of the WDC Selection Committee, “both cities have very different histories of design and urban challenges, but they are both inspiring cities that reflect the impact of design on the welfare of their communities”.
“Bangalore is an emerging city that is tackling a wide variety of local challenges through design, while Valencia is ready to showcase a rich and vibrant history of effective design initiatives”, the Committee’s chairwoman concluded.
The next step in this long process will take place at the end of July, when a delegation of WDO members will visit Valencia to discover in situ the values that have been set out in the report made by the Valencia Design Capital Association. The city that is finally chosen will be announced on 11 October 2019.
We in Capdell have believed in this project from the outset and we are convinced that the city, its businesses, professionals and citizens deserve to be chosen.
Our history of design, our past, present and future, are strong arguments that we need to keep working on and promoting. We are delighted to know that the city has taken an important step in the race to become the Design Capital of the world.
Francisco Garcia is Managing Director of Capdell, the company behind this project. He explains that “in our case, design is present in each and every one of Capdell’s processes. Our work is based on conviction and a commitment to design. Together with a technical and professional team of national and international designers who make up an essential part of Capdell’s trajectory”.
A recognition that is, in short, everyone’s.
